She realized that she wasn’t able to function with that much metal around her neck. Smith said over the past five years, she began to feel isolated and that the rings had taken over her life.
Finally, logic and sanity kicked in. Smith has taken off all of the rings and sees a physical therapist several times a week. Doctors say she will not suffer any permanent damage.
Smith says she does feel that her neck is longer now. But she knows that it has shrunk some since taking the rings off. The rings were making her neck longer – without the rings, her neck is normal.
All she was doing was stretching muscles, ligaments, and tendons. It was never going to be permanent (without the rings).
