Sofia Andrade bought a scratch off lottery ticket, and she won $200! Yippee! What would you do with that instant influx of cash?
I know what I would do with it! Sofia, however, didn’t spend it on herself.
Soon after she found her winning ticket, she was Glenn Williams, a homeless man living in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Williams has been homeless for about three years and spends a lot of time panhandling.
Sofia saw him that cold February night and knew what she had to do. Sofia told WCVB that she never felt as if the money belonged to her, she felt the money was to help Williams.
Sofia took Williams to Dunkin Donuts to buy him some coffee. Williams was struck by the offer and couldn’t hold back his tears.
Williams told Sofia that he was living on the streets because the homeless shelters were full. Then the idea hit!
Sofia spent the rest of the money to get Williams a hotel room for two nights!
Williams said he never thought there were people like Sofia in the world.
Can you imagine being willing to give up $200 of free money for someone you just met?
Sofia went to Facebook to share this experience.
As you can imagine, it went viral, and Sofia got messages from other people who wanted to help Williams too!
A GoFundMe Page was set up to raise money.
A local barber offered Williams a free haircut.
You see what happened there? One simple act of kindness led to an outpouring of love. One person can make a difference!
