Ordinary people, extraordinary acts of heroism. Marian Villarreal started to work at a Hooters restaurant in Georgia as a waitress. It didn’t take her long to get to know some of the local patrons. Dan Thomas was at Hooters one evening and talking to Villarreal about a medical condition that he had that may cost him his life.
Even though Villarreal barely knew Thomas – she made him an incredible offer. Thomas had lost both of his kidneys, and unless he got a new one, he would be on dialysis for the rest of his life. Villarreal offered Thomas one of her kidneys!
Villarreal had recently lost her grandmother to kidney failure and said she felt a higher calling when she heard Thomas’ story. In an interview, Villarreal said that how long Don lived after the procedure was up to God, she had done her part and was letting God do the rest!
