This is Zeus, a Western screech owl. Zeus was out flying in Sylmar, California, when he flew into a couple’s home, hit his head, and fell onto the porch. The impact was enough to make Zeus a little dazed and confused.
Happily, the couple was there and were able to help him get back on his feet!
They were shocked when they looked into Zeus’ eyes – do you see it? That peculiar look in his eyes explained why Zeus had such a rough landing – Zeus is blind.
When you look into Zeus’ eyes, you see what looks like a night sky! The ‘stars’ you see are clumps of collagen that are floating in the vitreous of his eye. After getting a clean bill of health from a veterinarian, Zeus was taken to the Wildlife Learning Center, located in Sylmar, California.
