Thanks to a vote in the Senate it is now legal to hunt and kill hibernating bears. The Senate voted on resolution S.J.Res18 – it passed the House with a vote of 225-193. Thank you, Senators of the United States (NOT)! The lives of sleeping bears are now in danger because of this action.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) put the regulations in place to help protect our wild animals. Now, they are no longer safe. Hunters are now allowed to shoot the bears at point-blank range.
Hunters can enter a wolf or bear den and kill sleeping mothers and their pups. Is that even hunting anymore?
Tragically, steel-jawed leghold traps can now be used too. All of this can now happen on national lands – in wildlife refuges. So, these are the issues our government thinks are important right now?
