In Portugal, terrible forest fires occur during dry spells hitting the country, specifically on 17 June 2017 most recently. The fire killed at least 65 people and injured 150 others, while incurring great damage to both property and landscapes around the affected area.
This was when the country’s firefighters came to the rescue, attempting to salvage and save as many lives as they could. A record number of 16,000 trained firefighters and 300 soldiers were employed, using more than 700 transport vehicles and 11 planes. The pictures of the worn out firefighters were taken by their fellow colleague Pedro Bras, and we salute these heroes for their bravery and hard work throughout – bravo!
