Consumers need to be aware of what goes into making the food products we buy. We assume that any food product on the shelves was made with care and with, ‘real’ food ingredients. Shockingly the one condiment you probably have in your refrigerator right now isn’t made with as much care as you might hope. It is ketchup.
Ketchup manufacturers most often do not use fresh tomatoes when making the product. They used a dried red tomato product – they just add water to it.
The rest of the ingredients include corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, salt, vinegar, natural flavoring, spices, and onion powder. Corn syrup and high-fructose corn syrup are basically sugar.
