Antarctica is not home to many species of animal or plant – the temperatures are not that hospitable. But, there are a few hearty creatures that call it home, like this ocean worm! The scientific name for this worm is Ulagisca gigantea, and it can be found living 3,000 feet beneath the surface of the Antarctic sea!
The worm is a member of the Polynoidae family, which translates to “scale worms.”
The outer surface of the eight-inch long worm is covered in slimy but colorful scales.
The body of the worm is rather flat, and that is because they spend most of their time lying under the sand, shells, or stones for their prey to swim by.
