Caren Ramirez, the woman who held Kyle prisoner, got a 30+ year jail sentence for her crimes. Ramirez had become Kyle’s guardian when his biological mother left him in her care, Kyle was eight years old.
A CPS worker just let Ramirez care for Kyle despite the fact that there was no investigation first – something that is required by law. Ramirez was never given legal guardianship, and CPS didn’t try to contact the mother or find another guardian.
In 2007, Ramirez was arrested for child abuse! At the time, Kyle was placed in protective custody, but Ramirez convinced him to escape and go live at her friend’s house. Kyle finally left that home 18 months later.
According to reports, Kyle was beaten with a hammer and a baseball bat, he was also forced to defecate and urinate on himself. Laura McCasland, a county spokeswoman, said that they hope the settlement is beneficial to Kyle. A little too late as far as I can tell. Money doesn’t solve all problems. Share away, people.
