Animals have a new standing in Taiwan – they matter! Taiwan has now banned the consumption of cats and dogs! There are now hefty fines and jail time for people caught taking part in the trade of animals for consumption.
People could face a fine between $1,000 and $2 million for buying, selling or eating cat or dog meat in Taiwan! A repeat offender could spend five years in jail. Let’s hope that other Asian countries follow suit.
As public outrage over this practice spreads, it is likely similar legislation will be enacted in other countries. The dog meat industry is brutal and cruel. The Humane Society International and Animals Asia have been working nonstop to free animals from illegal meat farms.
People need to know that dogs and cats can enhance their lives as companions.
Share away, people.
