WOW! Look at those tiny babies! Those are baby hummingbirds. They are so small they almost don’t look real! A woman found the tiny babies abandoned in their nest. They were immediately taken to Wisconsin’s Raptor Education Group.
The group identified the birds as Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird can be found along the eastern coast of North America where they live in meadows, open woodlands, parks, gardens, and backyards, according to Allaboutbirds.org.
When full-grown they are bright golden-green or deep green in color.
A full grown adult weighs only 0.1-0.2 oz (2 to 6 grams) and has a wingspan of 3.1 to 4.3 inches. These amazing creatures can beat their wings a staggering 53 times a second! Their legs are too short for hopping or walking, but they can shuffle along tree branches. Watch the video to see the chicks feed.
They are quite amazing! Share away, people!
