In the United States, there are millions of animals that live in animal shelters. The organization dosomething.org estimates that there are 7.6 million companion animals that walk through the doors at animal shelters each year. Of those, 3.4 million are cats, and 3.9 million are dogs.
Cats and dogs deserve homes with a family to love and care for them.
The staff at the many animal shelters around the country work hard every day to care for, love, feed and find homes for the animals.
When a lucky dog finally gets adopted, most animal shelters have what they call a “freedom walk” for that dog.
They take photos of the dog as it makes its way out of the shelter and into a new, loving forever home.
