I can’t imagine being a farmer – there is so much that you have no control over, like the weather and wildlife. Not to mention having to deal with all the crops! On the other hand, it would be a very freeing experience. You get to be out in nature and work with your hands. A potato farmer in Hoedspruit, South Africa was having trouble with the local wildlife eating his crops, so he set some traps. He caught himself a porcupine!
At the time, the porcupine was still a baby, so the farmer took her to Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage.
The volunteers at the school knew that the tiny porcupine wouldn’t survive on her own, so they bottle fed her and named her Spikey.
Fast forward one year and Spikey is a big girl and ready to be set free! Just a short time after she was released, Spikey came back to the sanctuary – with her of her babies!
