Abused cats and dogs live on nearly every continent on the earth and it is sad to think that no matter where they live, animals could be mistreated.
Most dogs live to make their human families happy. They love you unconditionally – and will even love you if you abuse them.

At some point, the animal may lose their trust in people, however, and that could be nearly impossible to earn back.
Just one look at this dog and you can see that she was horribly abused by her previous owner.
This is Angel, a greyhound mix, that was rescued by PAWS Animal Rescue in Ireland.

All Angel did at the shelter was sit in the corner with her face in the corner.

The rescuers couldn’t get her to do anything but sit in the corner.
It was determined that Angel was suffering from an extreme case of nervousness.

The staff was gentle and persistent with the love and care they showed her – it was something Angel had likely never experienced in her life.

Slowly but surely, Angel came out of her shell!
In time, she was able to lift her head and look into the eyes of her rescuers!

She finally understood she was safe! Soon Angel started to interact with other dog and made friends very quickly!

Playing with toys turned out to be one of Angel’s favorite activities, it is likely she never had toys before.
