Why is this a thing? Well, these individuals believe that consuming the placenta has benefits for postpartum women.

But that’s not what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is saying! According to the CDC, consuming placenta is dangerous for babies, especially if a baby is born with infections.

Consuming the infected placenta can then cause the baby to become reinfected. The CDC also states that there is no scientific proof that placentas offer any benefits at all when eaten, and strongly advise not consuming it at all.
