But it turned out to be love at first sight for Jake, who watched them and lay next to their tub from the first day they came home. Meanwhile, the other animals in the house didn’t show much interest in the ducks.
It didn’t take long before Jake assumed a parental role for these ducklings, and they began to spend a lot of time playing together.
The sweet dog knows that he has to be gentle with them, and in return, the ducklings love him the most.
Boggs theorizes that Jake’s bone disease – cranial mandibular osteopathy, which causes pain in the lower jaw and skull – makes him empathize more easily with others who are troubled or in need.
Perhaps that’s why he’s become such an important big brother to these ducklings!
