As a young pup, Poppy’s spine was crushed, and her back legs were paralyzed.
It is not clear how she was injured, but some believe she may have been trampled by another animal or she may have been kicked.
It isn’t clear how long she suffered alone and paralyzed before she was found.
Susanne Vogel was working at an elephant research camp in Botswana when she and her co-workers saw Poppy.

Vogel says that their camp was in a remote region that is full of predators.
At the vet, it was determined that Poppy was about 7-months-old.
She would need surgery to repair her spine the doctor said Poppy may not survive the procedure.

On March 3, one of Vogel’s co-workers, Amanda Stronza, set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the young dog.
Over the next few days, Poppy got stronger.
She was eating food, drinking water, and getting a lot of love.
