However, they rusted too quickly – thus the Government’s rushed decision to re-manufacture all of the remaining pennies back into copper coins! The reason? The stainless coins were magnetic and caused multiple problems.
Pennies from the past are highly valued amongst collectors – especially if they are authentic and made out of copper instead of the steel alloy used today.
