When the Grenfell Tower caught on fire in North Kensington, west London, many people were trapped inside. The flames soon engulfed the entire tower, 79 people lost their lives. A woman on the 9th or 10th floor was trapped with her baby. She had been screaming at a window trying to get the attention of people below.
The window was open, and she wanted someone to catch her baby as she threw it to safety! Finally, someone came close enough, and she dropped her baby down to a complete stranger! The man was able to catch the baby – who is by all reports safe and sound. The BBC News reported that the fire was likely caused by years of neglect.
The blaze spread very quickly, which was unexpected. Many are wondering if the new cladding fitted during an overhaul may have been the reason the fire spread as quickly as it did.
