One story with a high level of unexpected cruelty was reported in a press release by the SPCA in Texas. Michael John Ennis, was only 22-years-old when he was arrested and accused of killing his girlfriend’s dog in Allen, Texas. The dog that he killed was named Roberto, a three year old terrier.
Roberto was rushed to an emergency animal clinic as he had suffered numerous bruises all over his body, broken ribs and a fractured eye socket. Even though he made it to the emergency clinic on time, his injuries were so severe that being euthanized was the only way to end his suffering. The next day, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the SPCA of Texas were notified and brought Ennis to custody. He was taken to the Collin County Jail on a twenty-five thousand dollar bond.
