We have all heard that you shouldn’t ever mess with a momma and her babies. Mothers, of all species, will protect their young at any cost! Newsflare, shared a story about a baby koala living on Australia’s Sunshine Coast that had gotten stuck on some barbed wire. But, thankfully, the young koalas mom was nearby! The momma koala was up in a gum tree when she realized her baby was stuck and in pain. She made her way down the tree and over to where he was. Watch the video below to see how she assessed the situation and was able to untangle her baby and set him free!
Here’s the video that showed how the baby koala finally got out of the mess he was in and how he climbed back up the tree and hugged his mom! Did you know that koalas are not really bears?! According to the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF), they are marsupials, and they carry their young in a pouch. They should not be called “Koala Bears” – just Koalas.
Koalas are nocturnal and will sleep 18-20 hours a day! A baby Koala is called a Joey and females give birth to one Joey a year. Currently, the greatest threat to Koalas is habitat loss from land clearing, eucalypts disease, and bushfires. The AKF has estimated that there are fewer than 80,000 Koalas left in Australia and that number may actually be around 43,000! Share away, people.
