One cold January morning, Josh Hefta, a mailman, was out on his normal route in Walsh County, North Dakota. He has been doing the same 162 stops for years and is quite familiar with some of the residents along the way. One of the residents is Alice Paschke, 94, who has become quite fond of Josh.
Instead of leaving Alice’s mail in her mailbox, Josh puts it by her front door – saving her a trip to the mailbox. Alice would normally be outside to greet Josh and take her mail in, and she would sometimes offer him snacks or just want to chat as it can be lonely living in alone in the secluded area.
But, when Josh knocked on her door that January morning, no one came to the door, which was rather unusual. Josh grew concerned and knocked again and waited for several minutes. Then he heard a faint cry for help coming from inside! Alice needed help and Josh broke through the door to get inside fast!
