With the global population ageing rapidly, the universal question just about everyone has once they are old enough is – how will their golden years be like?
Even if you yourself are far too young to be worried about retirement just yet, you may be in a position to figure out just where your ageing parents can go.
Senior folks have always required care and attention, but thanks to just how busy our modern lives are, most folks aren’t able to afford their parents that without overstressing themselves.
The easiest solution, of course, is getting your ageing parents into a retirement or nursing home.
Or, if you are near the age of retirement yourself and realize you need someone to help you out and keep an eye on you, you may be looking into one yourself.
Unfortunately, most nursing homes have a – arguably deserved – reputation of being not the most pleasant places to spend your golden years in.
Even if you are able to find one that is reputable, many folks find that their independence and privacy in nursing homes are often incredibly limited.
In poorly-run retirement homes, senior residents are often treated as helpless or simple-minded.
And to just add salt to the would, good nursing homes can easily rack up bills outrageous bills in just a year. What’s a retiree to do?
If you are Terry Robinson, the answer apparently is to get creative and live in a hotel instead!
The 64-year-old movie director/producer from Spring, Texas, became famous early last month after one of his Facebook posts went viral.
Robinson and his wife, Renee, are still presently capable of living independently.
However, at their age, they know that there will come a time where they are too old and feeble to care for themselves.
So in preparation, they started looking up nursing homes.
To Robinson’s horror, he discovered that he would have to pay an average of $188 a day for both his with and himself to receive nursing home care.
This is a monetary burden that not everyone can handle, and Robinson wasn’t willing to pay for it if he could help it.
Luckily, he found a solution he preferred much more.
According to his number crunching, apparently staying long-term in the British-owned American hotel chain Holiday Inn would actually turn out to be a cool $128.77 dollars cheaper than staying at a nursing home.
But just how did he come to this number?
As it turns out, a combination of discounts for both senior citizens and long-term stay means that his room will cost only $59.23 a day, in comparison to a nursing home’s average of $188 a day.
On top of that, hotels like Holiday Inn will also provide their holiday-goers with breakfast and all sorts of toiletries for free.
As cool as this idea is, there is a reason nursing homes cost so much.
They double as standard care facilities, and are designed and prepared to handle and offer any medical care you may need on-site.
Robinson, however, doesn’t really care about any of that, and expects Holiday Inn to care for him and his wife if there are any age-related medical emergencies.
Hopefully he is right about that, because if he proves to be correct, then retiring to a hotel sounds like the best idea!
