All things creepy crawly make my skin crawl!! You see a little bug skittering across the floor, and you just want to scream (or smash it as fast as you can)!
Not everyone feels that way about insects, just most of us!
It is hard to imagine that there are some people who have dedicated their lives to studying insects!
If you are not a big fan of insects, the following story and its images may be rather disturbing!
What would you do if you saw this creature in a bucket in or near your home?!
It isn’t as horrifying as you may think – it is a Geophilomorpha or a female soil centipede.
Reddit user, ivealreadyreddit, found it in a bucket in his home.
The female soil centipede uses her legs to protect her young.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, the soil centipede can have between 27 and 191 pairs of legs!
They are typically ¾ to 7 ¾ inches long and have no eyes!
They like to burrow in the soil and can be found in yards, woodlands, gardens, and in agricultural grounds.
Here is a fun fact you may not have known – all centipedes are predators!
They have fang-like appendages and use venom to subdue their prey!
But the soil centipede, cannot bite humans and are harmless.
Because they tunnel in the earth, they aerate the soil which allows water and nutrients to reach the roots of grass and plants nearby.
So, if you see a soil centipede in your area, leave it be!
