Just look at this poor creature. This is a 220-pound loggerhead sea turtle found by a fisherman off the coast of Tasmania. The fisherman caught him only because he realized the turtle was in need of help. From the barnacles all over his body, it was clear he had been sick for a long time. The fisherman who found him said he couldn’t even submerge.
The Marine Conservation Program (MCP) took over the care of the lethargic sea turtle. MCP said it is a rare sight to see a sea turtle in Tasmanian waters. The turtle was given a full exam that included X-rays (they need to see if he had eaten any plastic or fishing gear).
There was no evidence of either one in his intestines. Next came the painstaking removal of the barnacles. They had to be removed one at a time.
