This is a disturbing story. A father and daughter in South Dakota have been indicted after being charged with incest. Daniel Mexican, 45, and his daughter, Santana, 25, reportedly ‘did the deed’ on November 20 on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. It was apparently a consensual act. Both pleaded not guilty.

If they are found guilty, they could pay a fine of $250,000 and could serve up to five years in jail. According to Wikipedia, most states have laws about incest. But they vary quite a bit and so do the penalties. In Montana and Michigan, the penalty could be life in prison for sexual contact.

In Alabama, marriage or intercourse with a family member could only get you a year in prison. While in Rhode Island, there is no penalty if family members get married. Currently, Rhode Island has no restrictions about sexual contact. Share away, people.
