They are mammals that can stay underwater for up to six minutes at a time. The dugong is a protected species, but, they were once hunted for their meat, skin, bones, and teeth. Some divers were exploring an island of Indonesia called Kokoya when they found a mother and baby dugong in two different cages.
Not only that but, the mother was chained up. The man who had captured them was charging tourists money to get a look at the animals. It is unclear how long the pair had been living in the cages.
The divers said the mother dugong has some scars on her tail that may indicate she had been there for several weeks.
The divers posted the photos and videos on social media and action was taken very next day! Wildlife authorities set both mother and baby free!
