Luckily, the family dog, Polo, was inside the house at the time. Polo, 6-years-old, seemed to realize that there was trouble and took it upon himself to protect his tiny human. The Baltimore City Fire Department finally managed to fight through the flames and found Polo had shielded Viviana from the flames with his body.
Thanks to Polo’s life-saving efforts, Viviana’s injuries were less severe than they could have been, she suffered burns on only 19% of her body. Unfortunately, Polo’s wounds were more severe, and he later died.
Erika and Viviana lost everything.
There is a GoFundMe page you can make a donation to if you can. Although nothing can replace Polo. What an amazing dog. He didn’t have to be told to lay down his life for Viviana – he just did it. Talk about selfless! Rest in Peace, Polo.
