Co-founder of the dog rescue organization, Tony Rowles, found Duke – and saw him sitting on his own faeces, frightened and covered in both fleas and ticks. Duke was also extremely weak, due to the lack of food and water.
Tony carried Duke to his own home, as the rescue shelter had no room for one more animal. Duke was terrified at first, but slowly warmed up to Tony’s family.
He was particularly fond of Tony’s wife, Diane.
During a health check-up, the vet informed Tony that someone had abused Duke, bending his paws and damaging his leg ligaments permanently! Duke was incapable of walking, jumping and running like how a normal dog should.
