I do not know much about snakes. I do know there are venomous and non-venomous varieties, but I am embarrassed to admit that I can’t really tell the difference. It isn’t likely that I would spend much time trying to get close to any snake I saw anyway, my rule is – see a snake, run the other way! Vicki Barnett and her husband have dealt with a snake problem on their property in Weatherford, Texas ever since they move in.
In one weekend, they killed over 30 snakes and dispatched nearly 100 last year! Okay, I would have to move that is way too many snakes! Barnett admitted that if a snake actually made it into their car or home, she would have to move! During the day, the snakes are usually less active, so there is some consolation.
At dusk, Barnett’s husband will go outside with his rifle and kill the ones he sees. Randall Kennedy of Fort Worth Wildlife, a wildlife removal service, said that snakes can take over an area quickly. Kennedy visited the Barnett’s property on July 22 to see the extent of the problem. Turns out that the property is a breeding ground for copperheads!
So, it isn’t going to be an easy, or quick fix for this particular infestation. As a silly plus side to this, the Barnett’s can sleep well at night because they have a fool-proof security system! What thief will want to walk through a field of copperheads to rob their house?! Share away, people!
