Video Shows New Jersey Cop Hitting Suicidal Man In Hospital Bed

Police officers are supposed to offer assistance to those who are in need instead of harming them.

A New Jersey police officer can be seen on a video assaulting someone in a hospital bed. The patient was suicidal at the time.

Ruben McAusland was 27 at the time the incident took place.

Someone nearby captured the events of the officer and the patient on a cellphone as the officer repeatedly slapped the patient.

The person recording the assault was another officer.

As the officer was slapping the patient, blood started to splatter on the pillow and the sheets.

Andrew Casciano tried to end his life in March 2018.

He was taken to a hospital to try to get the help that he needed.

The young man met the officers soon after he arrived at the hospital.

While the man was in the waiting room, one of the officers punched him.

Doctors determined that Andrew had severe facial trauma that required surgery on one of his eyes.

One of the officers has been charged with drug possession and stealing drugs from a crime scene while the other officer is awaiting trial for the assault he committed.

Andrew has recovered from the injuries related to the assault.

Soon after the assault occurred, he filed a lawsuit against the city for $4 million because of the actions of the officers.

The officers have been removed from their positions, and Andrew is waiting to learn about his lawsuit.

The city is thankful that the assault was captured on camera as a way to prove what takes place among police officers.
