The X Factor UK is full of wild, whacky moments, but it also has inspiring and heartfelt ones, too. In 2012, 34-year-old customer services advisor Christopher Maloney finally took a step forward and auditioned for the show. He’d wanted to do so for a long time, but had never felt brave enough to go for it. But this year was the year, after five years of consideration, he went for it.
When he took the stage, he was visibly nervous, and he told the judges that his grandmother was backstage listening to him. He was singing “The Rose” by Bette Midler, which was his grandfather’s funeral song. And then he began to sing, and his amazing, powerful, and melodious voice filled the room, echoing through the crowd and resounding in everyone’s ears.
