You may have heard some of the stories about rhinos being shot in Africa for their horns. This story about a rhino shooting will shock you because the rhino that was shot was at a zoo near Paris, France. The white rhino was named Vince.
Vince was only four-years-old when he was tragically and wrongfully killed – for ONLY his horns!
Poachers broke into the Parc Zoologique de Thoiry and shot Vince several times in the head and then they used a chainsaw to remove his horn. The poachers apparently tried to remove his second horn but had to stop.
It is unclear if they were interrupted by someone or if their equipment had failed. According to Julie Matondo, the education and communication officer for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), this is the first animal to be killed at a European zoo by poachers.
