It already is a heartbreaking situation to lose a child, no matter the case.
It is even worse when the loss of your child was the result of events that occurred without rhyme or reason, that there was nothing you could do about it.
It must be unimaginable, then, to lose both your children one after another as a result of circumstances beyond your control.
Truly, no parent should ever have to find themselves easily outliving their child.
Just a few weeks ago, the Allens had to do something that should be unthinkable for any parent – they had to bury their son, Brody Allen.
Said child was just a toddler as well, at only 2-years-old.
It is heart-wrenching to know your child has barely begun to live before their passing.
It was through no fault of the Allens either – young Brody was struck by a rare form of brain cancer.
Tumours had been quietly growing within the confines of the boy’s skull, and by the time anyone had noticed, the cancer was inoperable.
As a result, the family decided to have an early Christmas, with the loving support of hundreds of people whose hearts have been captured by this sweet child.
Now, the Allens are once again faced with yet another unthinkable scenario.
Just weeks after burying his baby brother, 18-year-old Andrew Allen is now in a life-or-death situation.
On the 5th of October, the young adult had ended up a victim of a car accident on when attempting to cross Springdale Road at night at Niagara Street.
He ended up being hit by two cars and nearly got ran over by a third.
Thankfully, all the drivers involved stopped to call for medical help and attempted to care for him until he could be taken to the hospital.
According to the most recent news outlets, the young man’s condition has stabilised, but is still critical.
Taking a look at the Facebook post Todd Allen, Andrew’s father, made, this is no surprise.
As it turns out, the accident left Andrew with plenty of problems.
Serious traumatic brain injury (TBI) that is poised to be life-threatening, a spleen that has a minor laceration, multiple compound fractures on both legs, a broken and dislocated collarbone, a broken shoulder bone, plus kidney, heart, and lung damage.
Andrew has been placed in a medically-induced coma by the doctors for his own well-being, in hopes that this will aid in his recovery.
He also has been put on a ventilator, since he can’t breathe on his own.
On top of that, he has gone through 27 blood transfusions, prompting Todd to thank blood donors and encourage the public to donate blood as well, to save other lives.
The young man has proven himself to be a fighter.
Although he isn’t out of the woods just yet, the swelling in his body has reduced a lot, and his heartbeat has strengthened and returned back to a normal rhythm.
On top of that, he is starting to breathe on his own again, although he still requires ventilator assistance.
Here’s to hoping he makes a full recovery soon!
