Butterflies add color and beauty to our backyards! Did you know you can create a butterfly garden of your very own? It doesn’t take much to make one, and you could attract some very beautiful creatures to your yard! Some butterflies migrate, like the monarch butterfly. So, it is important to know what butterflies are native to your area of the country.
Another important thing to consider is the plants that grow wild in your area. You should pay particular attention to the plants that attract butterflies – those are the ones you want in your butterfly garden!
But, be careful, some species of plants can be invasive, like buddleia (butterfly bush). The flowers from the buddleia may damage other nearby plants when they compete for resources.
Goldenrod is another example, in the U.S. goldenrod is a popular wildflower. But in Europe, the same plant is linked to the death of butterflies.
