Last year, an American black bear cub had been spotted for approximately four days on the banks of the Nolichucky River near Erwin in Tennessee. The cub was 5 months old and weighed 14 pounds. She had been abandoned by her mother and was malnourished.
Danny Allen from High Mountain Expeditions saw the bear cub when he was rafting in the river one day. The bear cub immediately jumped onto his raft when he steered it towards her.

He then took the bear to the owner of USA Raft Company, Matt Moses. He also named her “Noli Bear.”

They later contacted the Tennessee Wildlife Resources who took her to the Appalachian Bear Rescue, which was located in Townsend.
