In a press release, the hospital said the octopus toys have been linked to well-being and better health. The staff believes the tentacles on the toy remind the infants of their mother’s umbilical cord.
The toys make the babies feel safer. The idea actually originated in a Denmark hospital. With the octopus toy, babies are calmer and have a more regular heartbeat.
They also don’t try to pull out all the tubes and monitors. The hospital in the U.K. asked the public for help making the toys, and the public responded!
They hospital now has enough toys for a year! What an ingenious idea! Who would have thought that a crocheted toy could be so helpful?
