The “cat man” of Aleppo, Mohammad Alaa Jaleel, reached Internet fame due to his heroic efforts of saving and rescuing animals throughout the Syrian civil war. He set up a cat sanctuary in the east of Aleppo and has been working hard since 2012 to save these animals, many who were pets of those who had to flee.
He had over a hundred cats, but then the establishment was bombed.
He did what he could to save the animals until he had to flee, too.
But now he’s returned to rebuild the sanctuary, has started taking in cats… and he’s also just rescued a dog and her litter of fifteen puppies.
