Dog fighting is a cruel form of animal abuse, and not just for the dogs who are supposed to be fighting.
To train dogs to fight, bait dogs are often used.
The pups are tied and their mouths muzzled or taped shut, with their teeth within filed down, while the other dog is ordered to attack them.
It’s horrible.
It’s no wonder that Duke, abandoned after living a life as a bait dog, was so sad that he needed to find comfort in a ratty old armchair that had been discarded.
Then, someone living in the neighborhood noticed that Duke was always hanging out in his special safe sofa.
That person decided to post a picture of him on Facebook, asking for the public to help the pup, who was covered in mange and looked very thin.
Then Rescue Dogs Rock NYC got in touch after a volunteer came across the picture.
Immediately, someone was sent to get Duke.
At first, the dog was terrified and had little trust in humans, but the volunteer was able to convince Duke to get into their car so he could be taken to an emergency vet.
The pup suffered from cataracts, anemia, and dehydration, and was infested with fleas.
But luckily, he’s receiving some much needed care at the clinic and is recovering well!
Soon, he’ll be on his way to adoption and a forever home, where he can have his own personal sofa in a much better condition.
Share away, people.
