Keeping traditions alive is what sets each country apart. The sixteen young women featured in the video below are part of a Russian dance ensemble performing to an old Russian folk song entitled, “In the Field Stood a Birch Tree” and was written in 1887-1878. Tchaikovsky added it to the final movement of his Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, OP. 36, according to Making Music Fun.
In order to perform this routine, the women have to stay on their tiptoes – the whole time! Clearly to perfect such a dance took many hours of practice! The effect is magical, they look like they are floating across the stage! In Russia, the birch tree is a symbol of beauty. You won’t be able to take your eyes off the women, all dressed in red as they dance!

It is a beautiful song and a mesmerizing routine!
