Mama and her puppy were initially living with a foster group in South Carolina. The foster group had called the North Shore Animal League America shelter in New York City to ask if both the mother dog and her puppy to be transferred to them so that they could find suitable homes.
When they arrived at the North Shore shelter, it was clear that Mama would need some time to be socialized.
Thankfully, Mama’s puppy was deemed suitable and was adopted. Cindy Szczudlo, the senior manager of the rescue services stated that Mama was very timid upon her arrival.
During a medical examination, Mama was found to be infected with heartworms and bird shots.
After looking at the X-rays, it was clear on why Mama had tried to avoid being outdoors. As the bird shot does not affect her health, it will not be removed.
With some care, Mama has become a sweet and friendly dog who loves playing outdoors.
Mama is still weary of being outdoors and would want to go back indoors sometimes. She is also ready to be adopted into her forever home now!
