In dogfighting, a common practice is to wrap rubber bands around the ears of the dogs. Once the tissue dies – the ears easier to cut off.
Why would someone want to cut off a dog’s ears? So the dog is harder to grab by an opponent.
The puppy you see here was found in 2011 in Florida. She had been tied to a tree and had rubber bands around her ears.
Kelly Chickos and her family rescue senior greyhounds, but when Kelly heard about this puppy, she was compelled to help.
Kelly would send care packages to the puppy, Nikki, who wasn’t ready to go home quite yet.
Nikki got toys and treats – and a homemade knit cover for her ears.
A week later, the shelter called Kelly and said Nikki was ready to go home!
The care package did the trick! The shelter decided Kelly could adopt the injured pup!
Kelly said that Nikki has fit right into her new home.
All of her new siblings, most of them greyhounds, get along with her fabulously!
Nikki is an adult now, and she is an ambassador for the breed – she is a pit bull.
Despite her rough start, Nikki is NOT violent!
Not all pit bulls are violent death machines. Nikki is the proof!
She travels to different events to show everyone that pit bulls are just dogs with a bad reputation for aggressive behavior.
After seeing some of Nikki’s photos, you can see just how goofy she is! Now that is one Happy Dog!
