The plantation workers have been known to kill any animals that come too close to their precious crops. The issue is that oil palms are best suited to grow in the humid, warm climate of the tropics. This emaciated baby elephant was found in Indonesia by a rescue worker from BKSDA.
The baby’s momma had probably been killed. Not only was this baby elephant alone and starving, but she also had a bullet wound on her side.
The good news is that she is now in safe hands and getting treated. Please don’t buy products with palm oil. If the demand falls, maybe the destruction of the rain forests will stop.
There are alternatives to palm oil that won’t put the lives of endangered species at risk. Share away, people.
